Japanese electronics company Sony recorded a loss of £3.56bn for the year to March 2012, its fourth consecutive year of losses. It is to undergo a £620m restructuring programme to help it return to profit. The company is cutting 10,000 jobs. Sales for the year fell 9.6% to £50bn.

Electrical goods retailer DSG Retail Ltd, based in Hertfordshire, have recorded an 8 per cent rise in like-for-like sales in the UK and Ireland in the 16 weeks to April 2012. Full year underlying profits are expected to be approximately between £65 million and £70m. Sebastian James is Chief Executive of DSG Retail Ltd.

Robert Bosch is launching new robotic lawnmowers and no frills-lawnmowers. It is creating 25 jobs at its plant in Stowmarket, Suffolk, to develop cordless and robotic machines and is opening a new facility in the town, where 110 staff will be based from August 2012. Turnover in 2010 was 322m, 1,214 employees.

Carphone Warehouse is increasing its focus on non-cellular products following a decline in demand for pre-pay phones. Like-for-like sales fell 5.5% in the first quarter of 2012, and total connections fell 19%. The retailer has launched a new range of App-cessories, which connect to smartphones and tablets, and will distribute the range to 150 stores.
