DRS Data & Research Services recorded a 10% year-on-year increase in revenue in the period from January to May 2012. The company is promoting its e-Marker product internationally and interest from overseas customers is increasing. Although trading remains competitive the company continues to make progress.

London based global technology company, Laird, has appointed David Lockwood as its Chief Executive. Current Executive Chairman will resume his previous position as Non-Executive Chairman when Mr Lockwood takes up the position of Chief Executive.

Despite challenging trading conditions Lancashire -based BGlobal remained profitable in the year to March 2012 and cash generative at an operational level. The volume of meter installations in the industrial and commercial sector slowed, but strong interest in data services continues. A contract with Npower has been secured. 2011 turnover £29m, 243 employees.

Japanese electronics company Sony recorded a loss of £3.56bn for the year to March 2012, its fourth consecutive year of losses. It is to undergo a £620m restructuring programme to help it return to profit. The company is cutting 10,000 jobs. Sales for the year fell 9.6% to £50bn.
