Scotch Premier Meat is reducing headcount by 30 at its factory in Inverurie, Scotland, to reduce costs. Following a period of difficult trading conditions the company is focusing on quality and will source 100% Scottish cattle. The number of cattle slaughtered and processed at the factory will fall to 600 a week, from 1,000.

Surrey Quays Limited (a joint venture between British Land and Tesco) has been granted planning permission for a 110,000 sq ft extension to Surrey Quays Shopping Centre at Canada Water in South East London creating 18 new shops and restaurants plus four new kiosk units. An extensive refurbishment of the existing shopping centre is also proposed. The project will cost £30m to complete and 500 permanent positions will be created as a direct result. Vending business Snacktime expects revenue to meet expectations in the year to March 2012, while earnings will be slightly below expectations. The company is confident about its prospects for the 2013 full year. Since its acquisition of Venda in 2010 it has rationalised approximately 35% of the workforce but cost savings have been offset by higher costs.
