David Brown Gear Systems is reducing its 450-strong workforce in Lockwood, Huddersfield by 75. It is selling part of the site to Kirklees Council. A new factory is being built in Mirfield, West Yorkshire, creating 30 jobs. Expansion in the renewables sector is expected to create further jobs. For the year to December 2009 turnover was £54m.

FAREHAM waste company, The Cleansing Service Group has expanded its operation with the acquisition of Middlesbrough-based Harpers Environmental Services Ltd, which specialises in the treatment of hazardous waste. Harpers was bought out of administration. Neil Richards is Managing Director.
THE site of the former Rothesay Creamery, closed since May 2010, has been bought by local firm Bute Island Foods Ltd. The company, which manufactures and exports Sheese, a dairy-free vegan alternative to cheese, have purchased the Townhead site and buildings from First Milk, which shut the facility almost two years ago, citing falling sales of Isle of Bute Cheddar and rising operating costs
