A new Tesco Express store is opening in Crawley, West Sussex, as part of the retailers UK expansion strategy. The store will create 19 new jobs. Kevin King is manager of the new store. 2011 turnover £60.9bn, 384,389 employees.

Supermarket chain Morrisons plans to redevelop a former B&Q site in Kirkcaldy. The £25million store would also have a petrol station and parking for more than 400 cars. It is expected the project will be completed by the summer of next year and create around 330 jobs.

WM Morrison Supermarkets is investing £21m to expand the Woodhead Brothers abbatoir in Colne, Lancashire. An extra 4,445 square metres of space will be created at the abbatoir which is wholly owned by Morrisons. The introduction of state-of-the art machinery will allow thousands more livestock to be processed at the plant.

Discount retailer Poundworld is opening a 8,700 sq foot store in North Lanarkshire, in May 2012. The store will include a Discount UK outlet and will create 40 jobs. Discount UK plans to open a further 30 shops across the UK in 2012. Poundworld recorded £132.9m turnover in 2011 and had 2,009 employees.
