Transport operator FirstGroup is launching a £615m rights issue following an 86% fall in pre-tax profits to £37.2m. The proceeds of the fundraising will be used to pay down some of the groups £2bn debt. Underlying pre-tax profits fell £99m to £172.4m, while revenue increased by 3.3% to £6.9bn.

Natwest Bank and Royal Bank of Scotland has launched a 150m fund to support investment for the leisure industry. Lending under the fund comes with two six-month capital repayment holidays allowing breathing space for investment and contingency planning. The funding was set up after the results of a survey showed that 30% of respondents don't feel they invested sufficiently in 2012 to remain competitive, while 55% feel investment in refurbishment or new equipment would make a positive impact on their business.
