3% turnover growth - strong energy drink sales - positive outlook
Merseyside-based Aimia Foods recorded a 3% increase in turnover to £52.87m in the year to June 2011 helped by strong sales of its newly launched No Fear Extreme Energy Drink. Aimia has secured new distribution and licensing deals for 2012 and is doubling its jar packing operations after securing a long-term contract.

Call centre opened - creating 200 jobs
Etihad Airlines Ltd has opened a call centre at Manchester Airport. The airline has doubled daily flights from Manchester and plans to increase staff headcount at the airport from 100 to 300 by the end of 2012. The call centre will take calls from customers booking flights 27 countries and will provide a 24-hour service.

The company has opened new offices and established a technology division after winning new clients. Further growth is expected in 2012. Transline employs 120 staff.

Oldham-based conservatory company NTC Limited has been acquired by Jessica Trading, saving 25 jobs. The company was at risk of insolvency due to a decline in trade and increasing costs, but the takeover secures it future. NTC was established in 2007 and recorded £3m turnover in 2008.

National Grid contract extended - upgrading electricity transmission network
Construction firm Morgan Sindall has secured a five-year substation contract extension with National Grid as part of the Electricity Alliance Central consortium. The new work includes the design, construction and commissioning of 400kv and 275kv transmission substations in the Midlands and north-west England.

£100m student village - potential new jobs
AEW Architects has designed a £100m student village near Blacon, Cheshire and has submitted plans for the development which could create significant business and employment opportunities. AEW Architects worked with Bell Developments and planning consultants Spawforth on the scheme. The plans include accommodation for 2,500 student, a dining and leisure hub, and sports facilities.
