£4.5m hotel opens - 50 jobs created
Premier Inn has opened a £4.5m hotel in Paignton, Devon. The 61-bed Paignton South Premier Inn and 220-cover White Rock Beefeater Grill have created 50 new jobs. Premier Inn Hotels Ltd recorded £87.4m turnover in 2011 and employed 3,433 staff.

Closing Plymouth store - job losses
Fashion retailer Bershka UK Ltd is closing its store at the Drake Circus shopping centre in Plymouth, with the loss of a significant number of jobs. The store will close on 1 June 2012.

100 new jobs - 2.5m office development - 108,000 funding secured
Harveys Foundry Trust will start work later in 2012 on the 2.5m final phase of the regeneration of the former Harvey & Co premises in Hayle, Cornwall. The development will provide modern office office accommodation and will create up to 100 jobs. The trust secured 108,000 from Cornwall Council to develop plans for the regeneration.

Care village development - potential new jobs
Hatchmoor Nursing Home in Torrington, Devon, is planning to develop a care village for the retired and elderly on an adjacent site. The village would include 24 one-bedroom retirement apartments, three six-bedroom close care bungalows and a social centre. New jobs could be created as a result of the expansion.

Exeter store reopens - 10 new jobs
The Exeter branch of clothing chain Peacocks has reopened following the takeover of the company by Edinburgh Woollen Mill. Peacocks was placed into administration in January 2012 and acquired by Edinburgh Woollen Mill in February 2012. Ten new jobs have been created at the Exeter store, which is managed by Liz Harvey.

Merger with Harper Home Mix - integration phase
Massey Bros (Feeds), which has operations in Lancashire and Cheshire, is merging with Harper Home Mix, a North Devon-based animal feed company. The two companies will retain their trading names following the merger, but finance, research and product development functions will be integrated. Massey Bros recorded turnover of £35.4m in 2011 and had 80 employees.
