Revenue up 18% to 23bn - international expansion strategy
Alliance Boots recorded an 18% increase in revenue to 23bn in the year to March 2012. Trading profit increased 12.4% to 1.2bn. The strong performance was achieved through organic growth and acquisitions. The group expects profitable growth and international expansion to continue despite the difficult economic environment.

£160,000 investment - new marketing strategy - creating 15 jobs
Environmental health company Healthy Buildings (Ireland) is investing over £160,000 in an expansion which will create 15 jobs. The Belfast-based firm has received £30,000 from Invest NI to create a marketing strategy for Scotland and the north of England. It employs 60 people and hopes to increase sales in Great Britain to £500,000 by 2013.

Business expansion - New CEO, COO and VP appointed - Current CEO steps down
F-star, a leader in the development of novel bispecific antibodies, has appointed Dr John Haurum as Chief Executive Officer. Mr Haurum will be taking over from Dr Kevin FitzGerald, who is stepping down from the position. In addition, joining the management team is Dr Jane Dancer, as Chief Operating Officer, and Sharon Grimster, as Vice President of Development. Concurrently, F-star has expanded and brought together all research operations at its site in Cambridge, UK. The parent company remains based in Vienna, Austria.

70 Jobs Lost - Manufacturing Transfering to China
Smith & Nephew are proposing to move the manufacturing of some products from its factory in Hull to China with the loss of up to 70 jobs by the end of next year. The company remains committed to the future of the Hull site and has created 100 additional jobs since opening its facility in China in 2009.

New e-commerce website - new brand identity
Solseal, which provides sealant products for the construction industry has launched a new corporate identity and e-commerce website. Both the website and rebranding were implemented by digital agency Liven Creative. £18m investment - workforce to treble - acquired by BASF - new manufacturing facility
German chemical company BASF has acquired life sciences firm Equateq and is investing £18m to create a new manufacturing facility on the Isle of Lewis. In an agreement with the government, BASF is creating 90 jobs at the facility, expanding production of Omega 3 fatty acids. Equateqs 2010 turnover was £1.1m.

400 jobs at risk - winding down Swindon operation
US-based pharmaceutical company Patheon is winding down its operation in Swindon, Wiltshire, putting more than 400 jobs at risk of redundancy. Approximately 91 employees will be made redundant by summer 2012. The closure is part of a transformation strategy implemented by parent company Patheon Inc.
