Multi-million pound contract secured - potential new jobs
Siemens Service in Lincoln has secured a multi-million pound contract to provide gas turbines for a natural gas project in Australia. The Lincoln operation has achieved record sales following a major investment. Siemens is relocating part of the business in September 2012. The firm currently has 1,500 employees; further jobs could be created as result of its expansion.

DRS Data & Research Services recorded a 10% year-on-year increase in revenue in the period from January to May 2012. The company is promoting its e-Marker product internationally and interest from overseas customers is increasing. Although trading remains competitive the company continues to make progress.

Profitability maintained - Npower contract secured
Despite challenging trading conditions Lancashire -based BGlobal remained profitable in the year to March 2012 and cash generative at an operational level. The volume of meter installations in the industrial and commercial sector slowed, but strong interest in data services continues. A contract with Npower has been secured. 2011 turnover £29m, 243 employees.

New contract secured secured for windfarm scheme - 1.5bn project
Staffordshire based electricity supplier ABB Ltd has been chosen by energy company Warwick Energy Limited, as their preferred supplier for the large offshore windfarm scheme Dudgeon, near to Cromer in Norfolk. The contract for the services is not expected to be signed until 2013, and is dependent on the 1.5bn project getting planning permission and securing funding.

£3.56bn loss - restructuring strategy - 10,000 job losses
Japanese electronics company Sony recorded a loss of £3.56bn for the year to March 2012, its fourth consecutive year of losses. It is to undergo a £620m restructuring programme to help it return to profit. The company is cutting 10,000 jobs. Sales for the year fell 9.6% to £50bn.

Orders up 11% to £210m - £30m potential contracts
T Clarke strengthened its order book to £210m between January and May 2012, from £190m in April 2011. £100m of work will be undertaken in 2012. It has completed £46m of work, securing over 80% of 2012 target revenue. The company is preferred bidder for £30m of projects starting in 2012. Turnover in 2010 was £179m, 1,441 employees.

25 new engineering jobs - robotic lawnmower development - new premises
Robert Bosch is launching new robotic lawnmowers and no frills-lawnmowers. It is creating 25 jobs at its plant in Stowmarket, Suffolk, to develop cordless and robotic machines and is opening a new facility in the town, where 110 staff will be based from August 2012. Turnover in 2010 was 322m, 1,214 employees.

31 jobs lost - business restructuring
Domestic electrical applicance manufacturer Morphy Richards is reducing headcount at its operation in Swinton, South Yorkshire, due to difficult trading conditions. 31 jobs will be lost from operations and quality assurance department as part of a restructuring strategy. 2011 turnover £61.6m, 222 employees.
