New chairman appointed
Natural gas exploration and production company BG Group has appointed Andrew Gould as chairman. Mr Gould succeeded Sir Robert Wilson with effect from 16 May 2012. The Berkshire-based company recorded turnover of £10.3bn in 2010 and had 6,079 employees.

£100m Rossington colliery redevelopment - potential new jobs
UK Coals property division, Harworth Estates, is building 1,200 houses in the third phase of the £100m redevelopment of the former Rossington colliery in Yorkshire. The 49 hectare redevelopment will also include a food store, commercial units, a pub and hotel. New jobs and business opportunities are likely to arise as a result of the investment.

New wind farm development - Environmental studies to be carried out
Manchester based energy company ASC Renewables are planning to build a wind farm with up to 13 wind turbines on farmland next to a sewage treatment works at Newton Marsh, Tetney, South Humberside. Environmental studies are to be carried out prior to a planning application being made. Mike Denny is Operations Director for ASC.

1bn investment - Scottish energy firm collaborates with local wind tower producer
Dunfermline based Burcote Wind is to invest 1bn in developing wind farms in Scotland. The company is to collaborate with Scotlands only wind tower producer, Wind Towers Limited based in Perth and includes collaborating on an apprenticeship and training scheme to help create lasting jobs in Scotland. Graham Brown is Chairman of Burcote.

Business expansion - 19m acquisition - Northern Ireland gas supplier to be purchased
Energy giant SSE Plc is to acquire Belfast headquartered Phoenix Supply, the largest natural gas supplier in Northern Ireland, for 19.1m. The company, which has 130,000 customers, is being acquired from its private equity owner Terra Firma. SSE has agreed a deal through its wholly-owned subsidiary Airtricity Energy Supply (Northern Ireland) to buy the entire issued share capital in Phoenix Supply and to purchase Phoenix Energy, which supplies gas in the Republics deregulated commercial supply market. Alistair Phillips-Davies is Generation and Supply Director of SSE.

500 new jobs - 2 year plan - company growth
Oil services company Aker is to create 500 jobs at its operations in the north east. The jobs will be created over the next two years as it aims to grow its business by an average of between 9% and 15% a year until 2015.

Sales increase to £6.4m - 38 jobs created - business expansion
Renewable energy company Eco Environments recorded turnover of £6.4m in 2011/12, a substantial increase from £1.3m in 2010/11. It has created 38 jobs, increasing headcount to 50 over 12 months. The expansion follows strong demand for solar panels from domestic customers and significant commercial contract awards. It is planning further expansion of its commercial business.
