Surrey-based Rambler Metals and Mining Plc has purchased a 2% net smelter royalty on the Ming Mine held by Philippine Metals Inc. Rambler Metals invested C$600,000 in the acquisition. Turnover for the year to July 2011 was £2.2m and the company had 86 employees.

For the year to September 2010 Pressure Technologies recorded turnover of £21.7m and employed 95 staff.

£632m loss in quarter - Sales up 8.5% - Uncertain market
Steel maker ArcelorMittal has posted a £632 million net loss in the fourth quarter to December 2011, mostly due to tax and restructuring charges. The company reported a profit of £416 million in the third quarter of 2011. Sales were up 8.5% at £14 billion from the fourth quarter of 2010. Uncertainty about the European economy has lowered steel prices and shipments.

Decline in half-year profits to $9.94bn - 10% revenue growth
Challenging economic conditions in Europe contributed to a decline in mining company BHP Billiton's profits in the 2011 second half, after demand for commodities fell. Half-year profits declined 5.5% to $9.94bn, compared with analysts' expectations of $10bn. However revenues increased 9.7% to $37.5bn. Staff headcount was 40,757.
