Part of business acquired - 100 jobs safeguarded - Seeking buyer for factory
Aquascutum administrators have sold the brand, head office and stores to a subsidiary of YGM Trading, which owns the Asian division. 100 jobs have been saved. A buyer is still being sought for the companys factory in Corby, Northamptonshire.

Closing 111 stores - 730 jobs at risk - cost reduction strategy
Baby product retailer Mothercare is closing 111 UK stores over three years, putting 730 jobs at risk. The closures, which include 36 Mothercare and 75 Early Learning branches, will improve UK profits by 13m by March 2015. As part of the cost reduction programme, 90 head office jobs will be lost.

Sales fall 10% - business review - stores may be sold
Retailer Mothercare is expected to record a 10% fall in sales for the three months to April 2012, a significant deterioration from the 3% decline in the 13 weeks to 7 January. Poorly performing UK stores could be sold as part of a business review. Year to October 2011: turnover £3.4m; 12,090 employees.

Airowear acquired by riding helmet manufacturer - Brand to be exported to US
Supplier of equestrian body protectors, Airowear, has been acquired by riding helmet manufacturer Charles Owen, based in Wrexham in Clwyd. Airowear employs 20 people at its base in Corbridge, Northumberland, and currently exports 50 per cent of its products to Europe, Asia and Australia. The company has bases in Scandinavia and Germany as well as distributors in Japan and Australia. Charles Owen is planning to export Airowear products into other markets including the US. Roy Burek is Managing Director of Charles Owen.

£1m capital investment - 15 new jobs - positive outlook
Textile manufacturer James Johnston of Elgin is opening a £1m visitor centre, cafe and retail outlet at its site in Hawick, Scotland, in May 2012, safeguarding 250 jobs and creating 15. Advanced knitting machines will be purchased later in 2012. In 2011 the company recorded turnover of £50m. It employs 750 staff in Hawick and Elgin.
