Travis Perkins is to open a new store in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, creating 30 new jobs. The store is part of a £5million trade park being developed by Deeley Properties.

£1.8bn merger - Possible head office move
Quarry firm Lafarge could move its head office out of Leicestershire as part of a £1.8 billion merger with Tarmac, of Wolverhampton. Lafarge employs 450 people in Syston, Leicestershire, and 100 at its quarry in Mountsorrel. Lafarge will sell a cement plant in Hope, Derbyshire, as part of the merger. Richard Halderthay is head of communications at Lafarge.

Multimillion-pound contract won - Work to start July 2012
Alumasc Group has won a multimillion-pound order to design and install motorised external solar shading for a building in Chiswick Park in West London. Work is expected to begin in the first half of the financial year starting 1 July 2012. The company recorded a pre-tax profit in the half-year to 31 December 2011 of £700,000, compared with £1.9m in 2010. Paul Hooper is Group chief executive.

Distribution depot expansion - 10 new jobs
BSS Industrial, a division of Travis Perkins, is planning to expand its depot at Magna Park, near Lutterworth, Leicestershire, creating 10 new jobs. It is increasing the size of the warehouse by 3,800sq m, allowing 25 lorries to be based at the site, instead of 17.

Profits up £2m - Turnover increases by £3m - Business expansion - 200 new jobs
Hull headquartered independent builders merchants MKM Building Supplies, has recorded pre-tax profit of £3.2m on sales of £132.6m for the year to September 2011. Pre-tax profit rose from £1.1m in 2010, while turnover rose from £129.5m. The company is evaluating expansion opportunities as market conditions stabilise. The plans are expected to create up to 200 jobs. David Kilburn is Chief Executive.

39 jobs lost - administrators appointed
Cumbria-based Kirkstone Quarries Ltd ceased trading in March 2012 with the loss of 39 jobs. Daryl Warwick and Mike Kienlen of Armstrong Watson were appointed as joint administrators. The company manufactured and supplied architectural stone. Administrators are assessing options for the future of the company and its assets.

Profits up 28% to £250m - strong US growth - UK sales down 3%
Building and heating materials group Wolseley recorded a 28% increase in profits to £250m for the six months to January 2012 after strong growth in the US and weakness in Europe. Like-for-like sales in the UK fell 3%. The company employs 6,670 staff in the UK; turnover in 2011 was £13.2bn.

£10m contract won - Revenues up to £54.1m - Profit down to £700,000
Kettering-based Alumasc Group has won a £10m contract to supply a standing seam roof as part of the modernisation of a large aluminium smelter in Canada. Profits fall 34% to £10.1m - major contract lost
Structural steel firm Severfield-Rowen recorded a 34% fall in pre-tax profits to £10.1m in 2011, while 2011 revenues remained stable at £267.8m. Debt increased from £15m in 2010 to £31.3m in 2011. The company has lost a major contract in India. The North Yorkshire-based company employed 1179 staff in 2010.
