15 security jobs lost - Review of security
G4S is to cut 15 security staff at MediaCityUK in Salford, Greater Manchester after the owner, Peel Holdings, undertook a review of security levels. The company intends to re-deploy as many officers as possible. The changes are to take affect from 1st July 2012.

Thrane & Thrane to be acquired - 275m Deal - Turnover 170.6m - 10,700 Employees
Cobham is to acquire communications business Thrane & Thrane after the Danish company accepted a revised offer of 275m for the business. John Devaney is Executive chairman.

Business expansion - Defence company issues new contract
Defence company Qinetiq, based in Farnborough, Hampshire, has issued a contract to Shropshire based Igloo Vision for a military simulation dome. The new system will consist of a 9 or 12.5 metre geodesic done structure, a rig of 5 projectors, 360 degree panoramic projection screen, surround sound, media players and servers.

£245m contract secured - New spacecraft to be built
Astrium UK, based in Portsmouth in Hampshire, has been awarded a £245m contract by the European Space Agency. Scientists at the company are to build The Solar orbiter spacecraft, designed to get closer to the sun than ever before. The spacecraft is scheduled for launch in 2017 for a seven year mission and will study the sun in detail and its effects on the solar system.

Cobham plc have appointed Bob Murphy as Chief Executive Officer commencing on 25 June 2012 following the retirement of Andy Stevens. Chairman John Devaney has assumed the position of Executive Chairman until this time.

Profit up 19% to £142m - Revenue up 17% to £1.74m
Car and plane parts maker GKN posted a 19% rise in first-quarter profit to £142m, driven by a strong performance from its automotive business and acquisitions made in 2011. Revenues rose 17% to £1.74bn. The autos unit reported a 28% rise in profits due to strong growth in luxury car sales.

£13m contracts secured - potential new jobs
Dorset-based defence company Cobham has secured £13 of orders in the 2012 first quarter. They will be delivered from the Cobham Antenna Systems site in Leatherhead, Surrey and could create employment opportunities. The division produces communication systems for satellite communications, the military and commercial aircraft. 2010: turnover £1.9bn; 11,636 employees.

327m Indonesian order - jobs safeguarded
Airbus UK has secured a 327m order for 11 A330 planes from Indonesian airline Garuda. The contract safeguards thousands of jobs at a design facility near Bristol and manufacturing plant in Broughton in north Wales. Work has also started to build 12 Airbus A380s for British Airways. 2010: turnover 2.4bn; 7,974 employees.

Offer for acquisition of shares in Thrane & Thrane withdrawn
Manufacturing company Cobham plc, based in Wimborne Minster, Dorset, has withdrawn its proposal to the Board of Thrane & Thrane A/S regarding a possible recommended offer for Thrane & Thrane at a price of DKK420 per share in cash, as the Board of Thrane & Thrane felt unable to recommend its proposal. Cobham makes second offer for communications group - Increased stake of 26 per cent
Defence giant Cobham, based in Wimbourne, Dorset, has increased its stake in Danish communications group Thrane & Thrane to 25.6 per cent after acquiring 22.7 per cent from existing shareholders. The company has also made a second cash offer of £270m to purchase the business. John Devaney is Cobham Executive Chairman.
