Business expansion - Defence company issues new contract
Defence company Qinetiq, based in Farnborough, Hampshire, has issued a contract to Shropshire based Igloo Vision for a military simulation dome. The new system will consist of a 9 or 12.5 metre geodesic done structure, a rig of 5 projectors, 360 degree panoramic projection screen, surround sound, media players and servers.

Business aquired - 60 jobs saved
Engineering company MB Aerospace has aquired Thomson Aero of Somerset from the administrator for an undisclosed sum. The company, which makes components for gas turbines, employs 60 staff. MB Aerospace now employs 450 at facilities in Burnley and Derby. Craig Gallagher is the chief executive.

£45m warship contract secured - Portsmouth jobs safeguarded
Defence companies Qinetiq Group and BAE Systems have secured a 45m Navy contract which will safeguard 250 jobs. The two firms will provide shore testing of combat system equipment for warships at the Portsdown Technology Park in Portsmouth, under the four-year contract. Qinetiq recorded turnover of £1.7bn in the year to March 2011 and employed 11,208 staff.

45 million dollar contract secured - positive outlook
Amsafe Bridport Ltd has secured a 45 million dollar contract to supply 180 aircraft with a main deck barrier. Dorset-based Bridport supplies aircraft firms Boeing and Airbus. The 10-15 year contract will sustain business levels but will not create further employment. AmSafe Bridport, which employs 15 people, was sold to Transdigm Group Inc in January 2012.

25,000 New Jobs - Aircraft Project - 130 Uk Firms Involved
Lockheed Martin is leading a project for the design and manufacture of the fifth generation aircraft is expected to create and sustain some 25,000 jobs in the UK over 30 years. It will involve around 130 firms across the country, and is projected to increase UK GDP by £28.7 billion over the period between 2009 and 2036.

Contract for 3173 aircraft - 130 firms involved - 25k jobs
Lockheed Martin is leading the contractorship for the design and manufacture of 3,173 F-35 jets for the Ministry of Defence. The aircraft are to be delivered in 2015 and will involve 130 firms across the UK. 25,000 jobs will be created over 30 years to 2040. Paul Livingston is director of aeronautics.

£483m Contract Secured - 230 Jobs Safeguarded
A £483m contract to develop the next generation naval air defence system has been awarded to MBDA by the Ministry of Defence, safeguarding 230 jobs for a number of years at the Stevenage plant. The contract is for the Sea Captor Air Defence system which is expected to enter service in the middle of this decade. Steve Wadey is Managing Director.

Chemring Group Plc recorded higher 2011 pre-tax profit of £90.8m versus £89.1m in the earlier year period. Also, profit after tax grew to £73.9m from £66.7m. Total revenue was £745.3m compared with £597.1m in 2010, an increase of 25%

Profits up 45% to £75m - Revenue down 9% - 750 jobs cut
Qinetiq's half year underlying profits before tax rose 45% to £74.9m, although revenues fell 9%. Cost reductions including cutting around 750 jobs in the six months, taking the total workforce to 10,435. Leo Quinn is the chief executive.
