£3.56bn loss - restructuring strategy - 10,000 job losses
Japanese electronics company Sony recorded a loss of £3.56bn for the year to March 2012, its fourth consecutive year of losses. It is to undergo a £620m restructuring programme to help it return to profit. The company is cutting 10,000 jobs. Sales for the year fell 9.6% to £50bn.

Sales rise 8 per cent at retailer - Profit to reach £65m
Electrical goods retailer DSG Retail Ltd, based in Hertfordshire, have recorded an 8 per cent rise in like-for-like sales in the UK and Ireland in the 16 weeks to April 2012. Full year underlying profits are expected to be approximately between £65 million and £70m. Sebastian James is Chief Executive of DSG Retail Ltd.

25 new engineering jobs - robotic lawnmower development - new premises
Robert Bosch is launching new robotic lawnmowers and no frills-lawnmowers. It is creating 25 jobs at its plant in Stowmarket, Suffolk, to develop cordless and robotic machines and is opening a new facility in the town, where 110 staff will be based from August 2012. Turnover in 2010 was 322m, 1,214 employees.

New App-cessories launched - expanding sales of non-cellular products - sales down 5%
Carphone Warehouse is increasing its focus on non-cellular products following a decline in demand for pre-pay phones. Like-for-like sales fell 5.5% in the first quarter of 2012, and total connections fell 19%. The retailer has launched a new range of App-cessories, which connect to smartphones and tablets, and will distribute the range to 150 stores.

Business to expand overseas - 14 new outlets - UK sales fall 30 per cent
Independent mobile phone retailer Carphone Warehouse is to expand overseas as a result of decreasing demand in the UK where sales have fallen and sales of pay-as-you-go packages have dropped between 30 per cent and 40 per cent. The group will open in China in Summer 2012 with outlets in 14 stores operated by US retailer Best Buy. The company is also looking at similar moves in Latin America and Eastern Europe.

Sales up 5% - unlikely to achieve profits targets
Germany-based Bosch recorded a 5% increase in sales in the 2012 first quarter, compared with the 2011 same period, and expects full-year sales growth of between 3% and 5%. 2012 profits are expected to increase, but the company expects to miss annual profit targets, with slower economic growth likely in all regions.
