Business expansion - 19m acquisition - Northern Ireland gas supplier to be purchased
Energy giant SSE Plc is to acquire Belfast headquartered Phoenix Supply, the largest natural gas supplier in Northern Ireland, for 19.1m. The company, which has 130,000 customers, is being acquired from its private equity owner Terra Firma. SSE has agreed a deal through its wholly-owned subsidiary Airtricity Energy Supply (Northern Ireland) to buy the entire issued share capital in Phoenix Supply and to purchase Phoenix Energy, which supplies gas in the Republics deregulated commercial supply market. Alistair Phillips-Davies is Generation and Supply Director of SSE.

550 potential new jobs - new green power station
Centrica Energy is planning to build a new green power station at Scawby Brook, North Lincolnshire as part of its ongoing expansion. The development would create up to 50 full-time jobs as well as 500 during the building phase. The proposed site is next to an existing Centrica gas-fired power station.

Electrical power generation company Drax Group Plc, based in Selby in Yorkshire, has appointed Paul Taylor to the Board as an Executive Director. Mr Taylor has been with the group since 2004, and is responsible for the Retail and Trading parts of the business. Charles Berry is Chairman of Drax.

Ironbridge fuel store approved - 100 jobs safeguarded
E.on has secured approval to build a store for wood pellets at its power station in Ironbridge, Shropshire. The decision will safeguard 100 jobs at the plant. E.on will burn the wood pellets alongside coal until the site closes in 2015. One generating unit will be converted to use the wood pellets as a renewable fuel source.

Call centre highest rated in survey - Overall satisfaction improved
Scottish Power has achieved the joint highest customer satisfaction rating in an Ofgem survey. 48% of those surveyed were were left dissatisfied at the speed by which their complaint was resolved, however overall satisfaction had improved since a similar survey in 2010.

Office development nearing completion - 1,000 jobs safeguarded
A 105,000 sq ft office development in Nottingham, which is pre-let to E.ON, is nearing completion. The development, led by Miller Birch, is now at the internal fit-out stage. It should be ready for E.ON to move in by September 2013 and will safeguard 1,000 jobs. E.ONs 2010 turnover was £9.24bn; 15,823 staff were employed.

300 job losses - relocating work overseas
Centrica is cutting 300 jobs at British Gas operations in Leicestershire. Work is being relocated overseas from offices in Leicester and Enderby to help reduce costs and remain competitive. British Gas, which employs 2,000 people in Leicestershire, is a subsidiary of Centrica. In 2010 Centrica had turnover of £22.4bn and 32,817 employees.

Customer service office closure - 2 Welsh offices to close - Staff to relocate
Power giant Scottish Power will close its customer service office in Caernarfon, Gwynedd, which hosts the Welsh language service. The 32 staff can choose to be relocated to the nearest office in Wrexham. The 10 workers in the Queensferry, Flintshire, office will also be relocated. The process will conclude by the end of June 2012.
