500 jobs created - Increased demand
Norwegian energy services firm Aker is to create 500 jobs in Aberdeenshire over the next two years, increasing its headcount in the region to 3,200. Demand for the companys services has grown in the North Sea and in international markets. Leif Borge is the chief executive.

Tidal energy contract secured - 120 potential new jobs - expansion in renewables sector
Steel Engineering Ltd has secured a contract to build a tidal energy device for Oceanflow Energy. Steel Engineering expects renewables work to treble its turnover in the three to five years to 2015/17. The company also expects to double its current workforce of 120 over the same period.

New contract secured - Joint partnership with construction firm
Finley Structures based in Newton Aycliffe, County Durham has been commissioned to make 28 columns to support the ceiling of a plant where giant wind turbines will be made for National Renewable Energy Centre (NAREC). This company has issued a 1.9m contract to construction firm Shepherd Construction to build three new facilities to house test rigs for full scale wind and marine prototype devices. Finley Structures with work in partnership with Shepherd Construction to complete the development. John Finley is Managing Director of Finley Structures.

1.1m Biomass Facility - Company Growth - Carbon Emissions reduced
BUILDING firm Markey Group have opened its new 1.1million biomass facility. The environmentally-friendly state-of-the art burner runs on wood waste generated by Premiere Kitchens a subsidiary of Markey Group at Hardwicke. Since installing the biomass facility, Markey Group has been able to remove its mains gas supply. Major contract secured - 87m dollar expansion in Norway and Malaysia
Aker Solutions has secured a contract with Murphy Sabah Oil to deliver a subsea production system for the Siakap North - Petai deepwater development in Malaysia. Aker Solutions is investing 87m dollars in its subsea business, doubling the capacity of manufacturing plants in Norway and Malaysia.

£14m housing and retail scheme - potential new jobs
Nottingham-based Clegg Construction has started work on a £14m residential scheme in Lewisham which has the potential to create jobs. The company was awarded the contract, which includes 117 apartments, by developer Lowbridge. Work is scheduled to be completed by February 2014. 2010 turnover £40.1m, 80 employees.

New £50m holiday village development - 100 new jobs
London based Espalier Developments is to invest £50m in a former holiday village in Looe in south east Cornwall. The developer plans to build 150 luxury holiday homes and a leisure complex on the site. Approximately seventy five jobs will be created in construction over five years as a direct result, with approximately thirty permanent jobs when the project is completed.
