City council leader steps down - Replacement sought
Barbara Janke, the leader of Bristol City Council, is to step down from her position in May 2012. She is to leave her positions as Council Leader and as Leader of the Liberal Democrat Group. A new leader will be chosen at the groups annual meeting in May 2012.

New 6.5m care home development
Cumbria County Council has applied for planning permission for a new 6.5m home which will be built on the site of the former George Basterfield House in Barrow in Furness in Cumbria. The 60 bed care home will consist of houses with 12 bedrooms. Each house will have a dining room, lounge space and doors out to the communal areas. Other facilities within the home include a hair salon, treatment rooms, a laundrette and a large cafe. The work is being carried out by GB Building Solutions.

47.5m capital investment - rebuilding schools - potential new jobs
Leicester City Council is rebuilding Crown Hills and City of Leicester secondary schools at a cost of 47.5m as part of the Building Schools for the Future programme. Both schools are due to open in autumn 2013. The development is expected to create employment opportunities.

Recycling centre opening delayed - shortage of labour
Sims Recycling Solutions UK Ltd may have to delay the opening of a £9m plastic recycling centre in Billingham, Teesside, due to recruitment difficulties. It is seeking 50 employees to run and maintain a new plastics separation centre at the site, where 55 people are already employed. Technical, admin, accountancy and supervisory role are available.

1,700 jobs lost - staff headcount reduced by 14%
Worcestershire County Council has reduced staff headcount by more than 1,700 since 2010, leaving it with a workforce of 10,673. The council incurred the fourth largest loss of jobs out of the 32 councils in the region. The job losses represent a fall of 14.1%.

70 finance jobs at risk - 8.6m IT investment - cost savings strategy
Bristol City Council is planning to appoint a new supplier for its financial systems, putting 70 jobs at risk. The finance team will be reduced by 30% by September 2014. Introducing the new system will cost 8.6m, but it is expected to produce cost savings of 1.2m within four years.

Council customer service centre to relocate - 125,000 saved
Bradford Councils customer service centre is to move to a more central location in April 2012. The team will move from their office at Forster Square, Bradford to Britannia House at the junction of Bridge Street and Broadway in Bradford, which will be renovated. The move will save 125,000 as the centre will be occupying previously vacant Council space and the Council will no longer be paying for a lease at the Forster Square premises. 1.5m capital investment - upgrading small business accommodation
Derby City Council plans to upgrade four office buildings in Derby to provide space in the city for small and medium businesses. The 1.5m Connect project would be financed by the European Regional Development Fund and Derby City Council's own regeneration fund. The project is expected to create business and employment opportunities.

Closing care home - jobs at risk
Nottingham City Council is closing Marlstones Old Peoples care home in Bulwell, as part of a cost savings strategy. The closure would mean relocating 34 elderly residents to new accommodation. It could also put jobs at risk.
