Closing call centres - jobs at risk - ecommerce expansion - Serco appointed
Home shopping retailer Shop Direct is planning to close call centres in Preston and Worcester, putting jobs at risk. It has appointed Serco to deliver its customer contact programme and will invest in new technology. Calls to contact centres have fallen, while online sales have grown to account for 75% of total sales. 1,800 employees will tranfer to Serco, which will move some work overseas.

600 jobs lost - call centre closure
Shop Direct is to close its call centre in Preston, which employs 600 people. Serco will take over the call centre operation. Although some staff will be transferred to Serco, some of the call centre operations will be moved overseas.

Contract Secured with Serco Group - Company Growth
International service company Secro has signed a new 5 year contract with Ideal Shopping, valued at £17m. The contract will employ 160 people with existing members of staff in Peterborough transferring to Serco. As well as protecting the existing jobs, 40 new jobs will be brought into the city within the first 12 months. Mike Hancox is CEO .

Profits fall 60% - focusing on ecommerce - reviewing stores - jobs at risk
Home Retail Group recorded a 60% fall in profits to 102m for the year to February 2012, with profits falling at both Argos and Homebase. The group is prioritising future investment into multi-channel capabilities, including online, and may close some Argos and Homebase stores, putting jobs at risk.

50 head office jobs lost - Sales 1.7bn - 6370 Employees
Online and catalogue retailer Shop Direct has commenced redundancy talks with almost 50 staff at its head office. The talks involve employees from the companys buying and merchandising division. Shop Direct has reported sales of 1.7 billion but warned trading will become more challenging in 2012

Profits and sales growth - ecommerce expansion - positive outlook
Online and catalogue retailer N Brown recorded 4.8% growth in revenue to £753.2m in the year to March 2012, while pre-tax profit rose 2.5% to £96.9m. It is focusing on international expansion and is launching a digital marketing campaign in the US. New brands will be launched on the Simply Be website.

Revenue up 33 per cent - Sales rise 34 per cent - Three new websites launched
Online fashion retailer ASOS, based in London, has recorded a 33 percent increase in revenue up to March 2012. Retail sales increased 34% year on year, UK sales rose 4% and international sales increased 63%. The company has launched new websites in Italy, Spain and Australia. Nick Robertson is CEO of ASOS.

50 redundancies - call centre staff affected
Clothing retailer Damart plans to make up to 50 staff redundant at its warehouse, mail and print centre in Steeton and its call centre in Bingley, Yorkshire. Damart employs 700 staff across the two sites. Year to 30 June 2010: turnover £101.5m; 802 employees.

New Chief Executive - Christmas sales up 5%
Merseyside-based voucher and gift card company Park Group recorded a 5% increase in sales volumes over Christmas 2011 and 6% growth is expected for Christmas 2012. m-commerce site reliability improved - 99.63% load success rate
Office Depot Inc has improved the reliability of its m-commerce site. The success rate for loading its home page improved from 94.79% for the week to 25 March 2012, to 99.63% for the following week. The average page load time improved from 4.62 seconds to 4.50 seconds.
