Gala Casino takeover agreed - 205m investment - acquiring 23 casinos
Rank Group has conditionally agreed to acquire Gala Casinos from Gala Coral Group for 205m. The acquisition includes 23 casinos and creates the largest casino operator in Great Britain with 58 venues and 13 non-operating licences. Rank plans to expand its G Casino format to the acquired venues. Rank Group 2010 turnover 544.5m, 8,937 employees.

New spa development - rebranding venues - potential new jobs
Wyboston Lakes, a conference, management training and leisure destination in Bedfordshire is opening a new spa in September 2012. It is also rebranding and upgrading its two specialist training venues. New jobs could be created at the spa, which will include eleven therapy rooms, external hydro-pool and kelo sauna.

Takeover talks ended - Not in best Interests - Organic Growth Plans
Rank, the bingo and casino operator, has ended talks to buy the casino business of private-equity owned Gala Coral. Rank will now concentrate on delivering its organic growth plans, including the delivery of 12 more G casinos by 2015. Ian Burke is Chief Executive.

Opening New Brighton casino - creating 120 jobs - business expansion
The Rank Group is opening a £5m casino in New Brighton, Merseyside, in April 2012, creating 120 jobs. The G-casino will create roles across all levels, including senior management, catering, reception, administration, and gaming operations. It continues Ranks expansion of the 35-strong Grosvenor Casino Chain. 2010: turnover £544.5m; 8937 employees.

£100m catering contract Secured - 5 Year Deal - 800 members of staff will transfer
BaxterStorey has secured a £100m catering contract with RBS bank. The five-year deal is estimated to be worth in excess of £20m a year. Operating across the entire UK estate of around 40 RBS sites, BaxterStorey will provide all hospitality, fine dining, restaurants and cafés for in excess of 50,000 employees of the bank when the contract goes live later this year. Profit up 14% to £4m - revenues fall £2.5m - sale to Aldersgate Investments imminent
Arena Leisure recorded a 14.6% increase in 2011 pre-tax profit to £4.2m, following record attendances of 683,000 at its racecourses, a 7.8% increase from 2010. Revenue declined 2.5m to £61.5m, after funding from the Horserace Betting Levy Board fell by £7.3m. The sale of Arena to Aldersgate Investments is due for completion on 30 March 2012.
