70 teaching jobs lost - 2 schools closing - Building Schools for the Future programme
Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council is making 70 teaching staff redundant due to the closure of two Blackburn schools - Beardwood Humanities College and Crosshill School. Pupils will move to the new Blackburn Central High School under the Building Schools for the Future, BSF, scheme.

£3m college expansion - 40 new jobs - vocational training development
Doncaster Deaf Trust is investing £3.2m in a social enterprise centre to offer vocational training for students. The scheme would create 40 office-based jobs. An earlier plan for a £17.5m development was abandoned due to financial restraints. The trust may also create facilities for young people with autism. 2011 turnover £8.1m, 246 employees.

New training academy - 230 jobs created
Aston Martin has opened a 1,400 sq m new training academy in Gaydon, Warwickshire, to train new employees. 230 new jobs have been created by the transfer of production of the Rapide model from Austria to Gaydon. Training will be carried out by staff recruited from the company's own production lines.

University expansion - £10m investment in Staffordshire campus
Staffordshire University is to invest £10m in the development of its Stoke campus as part of continued investment in the University Quarter (UniQ). The proposals include the remodelling of existing buildings at the Leek Road and College Road sites in Stoke, together with £4.5m landscaping works. Paul Richard is Deputy Vice Chancellor of Staffordshire University.

New day nursery - 15 jobs created - 60 pre-school children
Berkhampstead School is creating 15 jobs with the opening of a new day nursery. The independent school currently teaches 220 boys and girls between 3 and 11 years old. The new day nursery will be in a separate building and accommodate 60 pre-school children. Richard Cross is the headmaster.

Green training centre development - 6.5m capital investment - potential new jobs
Thanet College is planning to build a 6.5m green training centre to offer students a diverse curriculum in environmental technology, including renewable energy. The centre has been designed by architectural practice Harding Neill and Watson. The development is expected to create employment and business opportunities.

New 9.3m college - To open August 2013
Visions Learning Trust is to conduct a feasibility study for its new 9.3 million university technical college in Burnley, Lancashire. The venture is backed by Training 2000, UCLan and Liverpool John Moores University. If the scheme is approved, the college will open in August 2013.

New training school opens - 100 new apprenticeships
Swiss owned food and drink company Nestle, which has a factory in Dalston in Cumbria, has opened a training academy on site and launched an apprentice recruitment drive to recruit 100 young people across Nestles UK sites by the end of 2012. The company already runs an engineering apprentice scheme in Dalston and now wants to expand this to other parts of the business. Sophie Jones is Human Resources Business Partner at Nestle Dalston.

10m student village scheme - Contractor appointed
Regeneration group Iliad has appointed Vinci Construction UK as the preferred contractor on its 10m student village scheme in Liverpool, Merseyside. The project consists of 261 student rooms across 225 flats and a further 36 studio rooms. Cassie Forshaw is group marketing manager.
