Reviewing hospital laundry - 40 jobs at risk - outsourcing proposal
Airedale NHS Foundation Trust is reviewing the future of the laundry service at Airedale Hospital in West Yorkshire. Options being considered include investing in new equipment and out-sourcing some of the work. Both options could lead to job losses from a team of 40. Christine Miles is director of operations at the Trust.

Proposed new nursing home and care home - includes residential and office development
Saint John of God Care Services has applied to build a 60-bed nursing home and an 11-bed care home on the site of the former Saint Clare Abbey in Carmel Road, Darlington. In addition to the two new buildings, it is also proposed to convert the Abbey into residential and office space.

Manchester office opened - funding secured for hospital developments
Robertson Group is to commence work on two major hospital developments in Cumbria. Funding has been secured for the £11m Cockermouth Community Hospital and £4m Cleator Moor Health Centre. Robertson opened a new office in Manchester in April 2012. 2011 turnover £204.5m, 1,039 employees.

Site for new hospital identified - 20m capital investment - employment opportunities
Northumbria Healthcare Trust is to build a 20m hospital at the Berwick Academy site, potentially creating new jobs. It will launch a 12-month consultation process followed by a six-month tender process. The hospital could be completed by summer 2015.

North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust is building a 299m hospital in Wynyard to replace two existing hospitals. Hatchmoor Nursing Home in Torrington, Devon, is planning to develop a care village for the retired and elderly on an adjacent site. The village would include 24 one-bedroom retirement apartments, three six-bedroom close care bungalows and a social centre. New jobs could be created as a result of the expansion.

22m hospital contract secured - new emergency care centre - potential new jobs
As part of the Miller hps consortium, Miller Construction has secured a 22m contract to build a 9,500 sq m emergency care centre at Gateshead Queen Elizabeth Hospital. The contract was awarded through the ProCure 21+ Framework. The consortium also includes Guildhouse UK and Community Ventures (Management). The contract is expected to create employment opportunities. 2010 turnover 297m, 408 employees.

Acquires Skingenesis from administration - £12m combined turnover - north west expansion
Skin clinic operator Destination Skin has acquired rival company Skingenesis out of administration after securing £2m from private investors. The acquisition gives Destination Skin three new clinics, in Leeds, Manchester and Chester and creates a company with a combined turnover of more than £12m.
