Reviewing hospital laundry - 40 jobs at risk - outsourcing proposal
Airedale NHS Foundation Trust is reviewing the future of the laundry service at Airedale Hospital in West Yorkshire. Options being considered include investing in new equipment and out-sourcing some of the work. Both options could lead to job losses from a team of 40. Christine Miles is director of operations at the Trust.

Major managed services contract secured - expansion in UK
Chinese telecommunications equipment and services provider Huawei has secured a contract to provide network planning and implementation services to Telefonica O2 UK in a five-year outsourcing agreement. 56 permanent roles and 62 contractors will transfer to Huawei.

UK outsourcing orders down 80% - sales remain at £974m
Logica recorded an 80% fall in UK orders to £101m in the 2012 first quarter, compared with 2011. Sales remained flat at £974m, with worldwide orders falling 24% to £1.05bn. The low UK orders were due to two major contracts, with SOCA and Shell secured in 2011.

Outsourcing contract agreed - 10 jobs lost - Monthly loss of 70k
Keychoice Underwriting is to outsource its underwriting function to Towergate, resulting in 10 redundancies. Keychoice Underwriting will retain responsibility for relationship management, sales and marketing for the business. The company is losing around 70,000 a month. SAS and Capgemini have partnered to provide revenue fraud and improper payment protection to public sector organisations in Europe, Brazil, India and Asia-Pacific. SAS will provide fraud-fighting analytics technology, while Capgemini will contribute its expertise in transformation and business analytics. The contract has the potential to create jobs.

Shop Direct contract secured - ecommerce expansion - 1,800 employees to transfer
Serco Group has been appointed by home shopping retailer Shop Direct to deliver its customer contact programme. The group will invest in technological innovation at Shop Direct which is expanding its ecommerce activities. 1,800 Shop Direct staff will transfer to Serco, which may move some work overseas.

Potential £500m takeover by Ferrovial - merger with Amey
Outsourcing services provider Enterprise could be acquired by Ferrovial, the owner of Heathrow airport. Advanced talks are underway over the takeover bid which is estimated to be worth £500m. Ferrovial plans to merge the business with Amey, its British engineering subsidiary.

£10m Birmingham Airport contract secured - 90 jobs safeguarded
MITIE Group has secured a £10m contract to provide cleaning and environmental services for Birmingham Airport for five years. 90 people will transfer to MITIE, which will provide terminal cleaning, waste management and pest control services. A structured framework for more services is also in place which could lead to MITIE securing additional work. 2011 turnover £1.89bn, 58,860 employees.
